Marsha Conroy (Omaha)

Statement: It is with great pleasure that I accept nomination for member of the NATI Board of Directors; it would be a distinct honor to serve as a Board member. NATI has been a continual source of information, encouragement and improvement for me personally, so serving on the Board would be a small token of my gratitude for all the benefits I have received from NATI. I am an enthusiastic promoter of NATI, frequently referring interested bilinguals to various NATI opportunities and sharing the training & experiences I have had as a member. My contribution to NATI would be as an active “ambassador”, speaking publicly and contacting those who would be potential NATI members and leaders. My goal would be to increase membership and further NATI’s recognition in the Translation & Interpretation industry,

Bio: Marsha Conroy has been involved in the Translation & Interpretations industry since 2000. As a member of the Nebraska Association of Translators and Interpreters (2000 to present ) and the American Translators Association (2004-present), she has participated in various training seminars for Interpreters and Translators (Lincoln NE 2002-2005, Omaha NE 2003-2004). She is also a member of MICATA, a regional chapter of ATA, and has participated in their 2004, 2006 & 2007 training symposiums. In addition, in April 2002 she achieved a level A1 through A3 of the DELF Exam, an internationally-recognized French proficiency test administered by France's Ministry of National Education.

In 2005 she trained at the State of Nebraska Symposium for Interpreting & Translating for the Judicial System and for Law Enforcement, and in April 2007 she completed the first stage for NE Supreme Court Interpreter certification.

She was employed as international researcher/ French division at InfoUSA in Omaha NE from July 2004 to January 2007; sometimes she would be assigned Spanish-language projects. In addition to intensive Internet research and data input, she spent much of each work day in direct telephone communication with clients from nearly every country in Europe; she used French, Spanish and English on a daily basis.

Marsha provides translation and interpretation services for both Sarpy and Douglas County Courts, the Omaha Police Department and for Omaha Public Schools, as well as for various attorneys, private clients and benevolent concerns. She translates Canadian television broadcast segments for SCOLA (an educational effort sponsored by Creighton University) and prepares the weekly Insta-Lessons for French language.

A member of the Camara de Comercio Hispana de Nebraska, she is very interested in improving relations between the Hispanic and non-Hispanic communities and in furthering opportunities for Hispanic businesses. She is currently in her final stage of Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Nebraska/Omaha with a major in French, expected December 2008 graduation.
